Time Portal

An immersive installation at Scone Museum

Step into the past and experience local history like never before.

Time Portal is a new immersive digital installation that brings the stories, objects and memories held within Scone Museum to life. Housed inside the historic Scone Lock-up, this multi-sensory experience uses projection, sound and animation to transform the old cell into a living portal through time.

Created by Case Collective  — immersive artist  Anna Fraser and creative producer Suzannah Jones — the project was made possible with funding from the NSW Government through Create NSW.

Working closely with the Scone & Upper Hunter Historical Society and local community members, Anna has spent many months researching the museum’s collection, recording oral histories, and exploring the rich and sometimes hidden stories of the Upper Hunter. These stories now form the heart of the immersive installation.

Visitors will be able to step inside the old lock-up and experience a blend of projected imagery, sound design by Gary Sinclair, and technical realisation by Giles Westley. On display in the Museum are animated works created by local students during workshops with Anna Fraser, giving young people the opportunity to interpret museum objects through digital storytelling.

Time Portal officially opens 12pm Sunday 21 June 2026 at Scone Museum. The installation will be accessible during normal museum opening hours and by appointment.
